Does anyone have there dog SHAVED in the spring/ summer?

I have a standard poodle, and we try to keep her in a sporting cut most of the time, which is quite dignified looking. That means all the hair is cut down to about .1/4 inch long, and allowed to grow to 1-2 inches. But in the winter, we let it grow and grow so she can stay warm (poodles are SKINNY!), and I shave her down in the spring. Of course, Poodles have hair, and not fur, so theirs has to be cut, or else it will grow to crystal gail proportions -- except in a fine curly mass that has to be brushed every day. Good luck with that. I would never cut down a dog with fur.

And if you are wondering WHY we have a poodle, my mother breeds them and "Petunia" needed extra love and care as a puppy, and we grew attached. So much for my dreams of a boxer or a wolfhound. Next time!

Why do they shave their natural, beautiful fur when it BELONGS to THEM?
