Does anyone use the nipple water drinkers?

Quote:
It worked excellent on my pig waterers. (same principle, just much bigger) Double wrap the plug with electrical tape.

We use a birdbath deicer for our system. It has only been down to -15f so far, but has worked flawlessly so far.

Has anyone ever tried placing the nipples in the SIDE of a bucket. I'm thinking I'd like to raise the bucket up off the floor, but not hanging it. I think it would be best in this case to have the nipples along the side. Picture a 5 gallon bucket propped up on a concrete block or two.

I asked the same question and didn't find any solution for horizontal nipples - until last week. All of these nipple waterers are designed to hang vertical and use gravity to stop the water when chickens aren't pecking at them - a good idea. To make a long story short (summarized by my post https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...s-update-really-no-one-knows/40#post_10023612) I need horizontals...

I found these: http://www.solwayfeeders.com/products/side-mounted-nipple-pdr0032-c64.html - but from the UK (Scotland)!

After close examination of the writing on them I was able to track down a retailer in Nova Scotia, Canada (Sissiboo Home Hardware and Farm Supplies - http://op9.activant-inet.com/sissiboo/nlcatalog.asp?loc=nlitem.asp&args=sku|10456) and finally received them today. They're $1.19 CDN + shipping and duty.

I'm going to put them on my bucket today and how they work. If anyone has seen these and knows where to get them in the U.S. please share. I may make a large order and distribute otherwise.

I use a 5 gallon bucket with 4 nipples in it that came with my original 3 hens and roo...so when I got more chickens I guess they saw the older birds using it and figured what the hey...or chickens did what chickens do and pecked and found that if you peck at the red thing under the bucket that it gives you water. Either way they have no issue using it at all. they do seem to all prefer the long gups you can get out of the water bowl...so I clean and refill the bowl everyday, and the bucket seems like it never gets empty because they have the bowl...

They make some that are water cups...I think chickens across the board would prefer the cups. I am going to order some and see if I can affix them to a bucket as well.

I got my nipples from EBAY 10 nipples for $5.88 free shipping I purchaced 30 screw in nipples for $17.64 I am going to set them up in my coop and brooder coop I have to wait till it warms up but I will let you know how they work
