Dog attack! (Graphic Pictures)

Hi, wound looks good, are you cleaning it? I would clean with saline, let dry, then slather with plain antibiotic ointment, repeat twice bac day. It will heal faster.

Offer her raw yolk and cooked meat to eat, grubs, plain yogurt with live cultures. Monitor her crop as well.

The vet said to stop with the baths so I skipped it yesterday but today did one anyways with chlorhexidine. I do have a bottle of iodine though if it's better. Vet also said to stop the Vetericyn and antibiotic ointment but I'm hesitant on that too! Because she's on Clavamox, does she need ointment too? I struggle knowing what to do with the conflicting opinions. Even the two vets were disagreeing.

Where can I get grubs besides digging in my yard? (Tried that today...found only a beetle) I'm doing yogurt, egg, and the Recovery food. Shes eating her normal pellets though too.

The vet felt it's unlikely she'll survive. I hate just waiting like this.

You can get dried grubs at the feed store. Tractor supply sells these and our girls just love them! ❤️❤️

I will say it's looking better already.

As to the baths.....I would not bathe the whole bird but I would keep that wound as clean as I could. If that means a saline rinse followed by triple antibiotic ointment I would absolutely do that.

Over the years I have seen scores of posts about injured birds with much worse injuries. The treatment has been clean and slather with ointment, keep the bird in as clean a recovery space as possible, encourage them to eat and drink.
Most have recovered with that process.

The ointment really is needed. It provides direct to the wound antibiotic as well as keeping it moist (dried flesh dies) and while thin it's a barrier to bacteria, dirt and potential flies.

I see she is eating and drinking for you. That is fantastic!
Don't worry to much if you can't get grubs. She is eating on her own so should do fine with what you are currently feeding.

Do keep monitoring that crop to ensure it is emptying overnight.

Is she moving around ok or just sitting? I don't recall seeing if she is acting normal or lethargic.

Thank you!

She's moving around ok but not exploring like she normally wound ..but I expect that since she is inside and there is nothing very interesting. She is preening and interacting with me. She is currently on two Calavamox, twice a day but after tomorrow, that goes down to one Clavamox, twice a day. I say this because her stool has been more runny than normal but I assume that has more to do with the Clavamox and Metacam?

What about these dark spots and the yellowness?

My experience with treating severe wounds on birds is quite limited (not complaining about that).

It has been 25 years in fact since I had to treat a severe wound. A duck had been attacked and was missing nearly half her breast. That one I cleaned, sewed, gave antibiotics, kept clean and hoped for her to recover. In the end she did recover but never could fully control that wing.

Ok that said I have spent a decade reading here and have followed numerous threads about grave injuries including several scalped birds and ones with no skin left on their backs. In those threads I have seen the yellow skin. It is usually bruising that is healing. The black spots I am not sure what is going on there.

Perhaps a few more knowledgeable people can pop in and take a look.
@Eggcessive @Wyorp Rock @azygous would any of you kind people be available to take a look at the pics above and offer treatment advice?
