Well, it's been a week and she's coming along nicely, but my Chicken Guru tells me it will be at least another week before she can return to the coop. She's having daily outings with her flock so they don't forget her.

Here she is facing off with her sister BO...and Buffy WON. Girl is wounded, but she has not lost her mojo.

Glad she's recovering well! I think chickens must have remarkable ability to heal from injiries most animals couldn't!

Had a predator rip a big gash in the breast of one of my girls. The other chickens did not peck at her, so I let her stay with the flock. She completely healed up without harassment from the others. Took about 3 weeks. about 5 for the feathers to come back in. You cannot tell she was even wounded. I first thought she would never make it but she came through it just fine. They do have remarkable healing abilities.

I'm new to chickens, and I'm stunned with amazement. If Buffy's body were a sphere, and you were to draw lines around it on all three axes, the upper right hind eight of her body is just GONE. Her functionality is amazing and preposterous. I'm absolutely in AWE.

And thank you for the timeline! This will give me some idea of what I can expect.

And this dress has even more fancy stuff to play with and distract her from her wound. So cute :)

Buffy got a new dress today as the old one was getting a tad Blu-Kote-y. I thought I'd let her go naked for a bit to air out her feathers and her nethers, but she went right for the wound. And, so...dress number two.

You and her both going to be so into this dress-up thing won't neither one of you want to give it up when she gets well!

Oh, Buffy wants OUT of the dress, believe me. She is NOT happy.

We've moved on to a cape, which is a longer, wider version of a DIY saddle I found online. So far, so good! Naked, she had pecked little wound in her...ummm...big wound. Bad chicken!
