Dog break-in scares 600 rabbits to death (Graphic photos)

Was the way they were being kept, and going to be slaughtered any less tramatic?

Just askin'... I've seen many horror stories about how animals suffer, in the way they are kept, handled, and slaughtered. Not only in China, (but that's a bad one) but many places including here in the U.S.
In the meantime...dogs best stay away from my chickens, else they be dead dogs.

And yes, I feel for the owners loss of income. I'm not totally heartless and uncaring when it comes to humans.

Sheesh, who would have thought that 3 dogs could have scared to death that many rabbits. I was looking at the set up they had, and I think that had more to do with it, they were already stressed to heck, and then the dogs scaring the crap out of them just made it worse. How totally weird. I feel bad for the farmers thou. I would think they'd have been able to sell the rabbits to a renderer for dog/cat food... oh wait, they eat those there too... I know... my uncle lived there for a while...

I'm sure the way they are being kept and how they are to be slaughtered are far below US standards, but they were at least alive enough to reproduce and make a living for this lady. In optimal conditions, those rabbits might not have died due to dogs running amok (which is rare I am told due to eating stays), but for the lady, she was doing what she could to survive. I am told there is no welfare in china, only family, and you are bound to the class you are born into...and you have to rent your land from the gov't. As bad as it sounds, I would not be surprised if they were sold for human consumption, just the fact they were dead prior to sale makes them much much much much less valuable.

It probably has to do with the fact that a caged rabbit cannot run when frightened. It panics, its heart beats out of control and its system is flooded with adrenalin. A wild rabbit gets chased by a dog, but its heart is racing to contend with the fact its running at top speed. This uses the rapid heart rate and the adrenalin in its system.

Just a theory.

OOOOOOOOh ok. Sounds like a good theory to me. I totally buy it. Makes sense to me.

Thanks

The living conditions for the rabbits don't look good. You can see rabbit poo all around the tiers of cages(?) . Probably wire floors and it just falls thru to the lower ones. Didn't look like the rabbits were getting much daylight. Probably as bad all around as the battery chickens.Whatever, I feel badly for the farmer I believe they were doing the best they could in that country.

My wife rehabs wild bunnies that are injured. Those critters will die on you in a heartbeat. They are genetically programmed to FLEE danger and cannot take the stress of being confined in a traumatic setting.

Maybe domesticated rabbits are the same.
