Dog thread!🐾

If i got a LGD it would be a Antolian Shepherd a Great Pryenees or another breed i cant remember. Hopefully ill need one someday. Then ill get a heeler, a collie or a different breed for herding.
Yeah same

I guess the Komodor is kinda neat looking, but I'd worry with that fur, they'd either need lots of hair cuts or would be too hot in the summers

Komondors are a double coated breed, so shaving is a big no no. Also komondors are a corded breed, which is absolutely cool, and actually helps them blend in with the stock, and helps them stay safe from predator bites

This is what I think Twiggy has a bit of in her!

Twiggy gets extremely attached to animals she really likes spending time and checking on them and she also has basically 0 energy which is I think what she has inherited from some LGD in her ancestry

herding dogs normally are attached to people and have type of prey drive which is what makes them herd animals they also need a lot of physical and mental stimulation to be happy left on their own with livestock they will either turn to playing with the livestock or leaving them to find something else to do. Like stare at their owner šŸ˜†

LGD are attached to their animals, they basically live as a extra part of the flock that will protect the livestock. They don’t have as high mental and physical needs as herding dogs

the other thing is if you have coyotes the herding breeds will probably actually be in danger since they are smaller then most LGDs

Ah okay. It could possibly especially if you take them outside a lot but I wouldn’t leave them alone with them. Good fencing will help. Also a regular herding dog might not stay with the stock. They might run off and do other, more interesting, things. Also there’s tons of different LGD breeds so I’m sure you could find one you like. You might be surprised at what’s in your area.
Only 3 popped up on the AKC website. We have plenty of LGD mixed dogs around, but those likely won't be what is around where I move either.
