Dog thread!🐾

Got to meet the mysterious pack of dogs my aunt and uncle have yesterday. No pictures sadly though, and I quarked a finger keeping the excited one from jumping against me at one point, but it was good meeting them. I got to meet them on leashes one at a time before 4 of the 5 were let loose while we got the house tour, where we met the 5th one in her own little room

I'd take exception starting with the Bison, and the list goes on.
Labradors and Goldens can go on the list too.

What do bisons have to do with anything? Labradors and Goldens don't fit into my household. I'm willing to bet their energy requirements are too much for other people to. Suggesting that hunting breeds such as the ones you mentioned fit into every household is dangerous, and leads to many dogs being dumped. Mentors are good to have with any breed

Hello 👋 I am new to this thread

- do you do any dog sports or want to do any? I want to do IPO and Herding and Agility once I am older and have my own dogs
-do you show dogs? No but I would love to and I watch AKC and Westminster and the dog show and my county fair when I show my turkey and hens.

-whats your favourite breed/what breed do you want to get? My favorite breed is a Belgian Malinois. I want a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, a Border Collie, and a Working Line GSD

-introduce your dog. This is my dog Ollie. He is a 4 year old Border Collie/Australian Cattle Dog/Pitbull/Supermitt mix.

Welcome! Ollie is adorable!
By the way 4h offers agility for dogs if you wanted to take Ollie. Thats where i will be training my pup Tucker. Nova Scotias, Belgian Malinois, Border collies and working line GSD are all good dogs if you can train them right and be ready for energy galore!

I agree. There is so many labs and goldens in rescues right now because people expect what they see online a calm, easy going, and super easy dog to have.
Dont let the internet fool you any hunting breed has tons of energy and although some are easy to train many require 3 hours every day of the week for months to get them perfected.

Bisons are great pets.

Wasn't talking about what works in your household, we were talking about what would work better in most households.
There's a host of popular dogs, and they're popular because they fit in lots of households. Goldens and Labradors are high on that list.

Primitive breeds don't work in my household, and as you previously stated, not doable in most.

Then there's Otterhounds!😂

A lot of dogs got adopted three or so years ago by people who probably shouldn't even have cats.
A friend of mine rescued a Golden, and he was a handful at first. He's now calmed down and is very good.

I'm his 'human', if you know what I mean. 😄

Never said 'EVERY', just said they're popular for a reason.

I have no use for large, primative dogs, but clearly you do. I am sure you take appropriate measures like strong fences and leasing in public, as you should.

You missed the next part or what? Hunting breeds don't fit a lot of households. They're not the most common breeds because they fit a lot of households, they're the most common breed because there aren't enough resources out there to educate the general public on finding the proper breed for your lifestyle. The adopt don't shop mentality doesn't help. If all there is in the shelter is labs, then people who don't know how to reach an ethical breeder, will get the lab

What makes you thing primitive breeds fit my household? Just because I advocate for them and am deeply interested in them doesn't mean I'll ever keep one
