Dog thread!🐾

Bisons are great pets.

Wasn't talking about what works in your household, we were talking about what would work better in most households.
There's a host of popular dogs, and they're popular because they fit in lots of households. Goldens and Labradors are high on that list.

Primitive breeds don't work in my household, and as you previously stated, not doable in most.

Then there's Otterhounds!😂
Otterhounds😍

A lot of dogs got adopted three or so years ago by people who probably shouldn't even have cats.
A friend of mine rescued a Golden, and he was a handful at first. He's now calmed down and is very good.

I'm his 'human', if you know what I mean. 😄
I know many people that shouldnt even own a goldfish.
My aunt rescues and all of her what was listed as "mutts" turned out good.
I want to get into fostering puppies. But im not in a good place for that right now. Mainly because of all the rules. Of course i would stick with the retriever breeds or similar breeds. As they work for my household.

You missed the next part or what? Hunting breeds don't fit a lot of households. They're not the most common breeds because they fit a lot of households, they're the most common breed because there aren't enough resources out there to educate the general public on finding the proper breed for your lifestyle. The adopt don't shop mentality doesn't help. If all there is in the shelter is labs, then people who don't know how to reach an ethical breeder, will get the lab
Tbf they do fit in quite a lot of houses, they just also don’t fit quite a lot on that same note. They definitely don’t fit every house or even most houses but there’s still a lot that they do fit in. They’re pretty easy going, gentle dogs once they’re old enough to have calmed down and you usually won’t have to worry about them biting someone like some breeds. They are also very forgiving and hard to mess up unlike a lot of other breeds.

This holds true for quite a few breeds. I am still convinced that some people who get labs are better off with another breed. There's a reason those breeds are popular, they've been featured in mainstream media for years. Now that the Frenchie is being used more (albeit BYB specimens) people are shifting. I do agree that labs fit in a lot more homes than say a saluki, but I do believe that a lot of people who currently have labs would be happier with another breed. Ultimately, it's just harming the breed, and any breed, if people get any dog when it doesn't fit their lifestyle

Yeah that’s true. A lot of them probably would be better off with another breed especially when they let it rot in the backyard because they don’t train or exercise it and it becomes a terror. But still, a lot of people just love the breeds and want one. But that said, I do think a lot of people fall victim to the whole “they’re the perfect family dog” thing and think they HAVE to have one because everyone else does or their neighbor has one or two and told them about them or whatever. And they don’t realize those calm dogs they see are the result of years of training plus exercise. I personally believe some people would be better off with NO dogs. But I believe Frenchies finally surpassed Labs last year for most popular breed. Not necessarily a good thing since a lot of people get BYB dogs but at least Frenchies might be a little easier for some.
