Dog thread!🐾

She's crazy, handraised single kittens are handfuls  Black cats and Maine coons are some of the few cats that interest me, but I will only ever have one cat at a time.

For a few months each year I try to attend some local shows. I've never done any major shows because some people who do dog shows are highly competitive and sometimes really rude (and while shows are supposed to be completely fair my mum honestly thinks they're a bit rigged, it's all about who you know). By doing local show there's not as many of the city people cause some don't consider the travel worth it.
I would like to one day do my breed's specialty show, but I know 90% of the breeders are very rude and don't know if I want to meet them in person :hmm
I love Maine Coons to!

Ive heard some dog show people can be that way. Im just doing 4-h/maybe some field trials with Tucker once he gets older. My dogs arent AKC registered, so i cant do AKC shows.

Sounds like a great plan! What leads and collars do you use?
To show how professional I am, I don't know what they're called :p. I've always used the exact some ones varying only for the size of the dog (adult vs puppy). I guess they're a variation of slip leads? It's a lead with a loop on the end and generally has a bead or something that you slide up and down to adjust size.

Yup, it's a slip lead! That's the one I have ad well. Once I get my first show prospect I'm definitely going with a really blinged up lead

Mine are very basic . I have colour choice of beige/cream (my preferred one), black or bright blue. They're just nylon with no decorative beads or anything :D. I think I have a few more options in the smaller sizes but I don't often show puppies.
Maybe I should get Winnie a fancier one :p

Definitely do! For puppies I've seen most use a slip lead, it's the safest and easiest for them. But for trained show dogs most use kangaroo leather leads, and a chain collar, or a nylon, and I believe there's one more, but it's slipping my mind right now

I usally use a slip lead for mine. Trainers reccomend i use. We took Tucker to a obedience class and the lady training has gone to international agility competitions plus US competitions her dogs are so well behaved to(Her names Deb Schulman).

I am using a pink, with black for Tucker.... it was originally meant for Denver. Atleast people call both my dogs boys, even with bright pink collars, and leashes. Mine has a leather slide piece that is impossible to get off so i dont need to worry about it slipping off.
