Dog thread!🐾

Is it just me or are these dogs under weight? Not pictures that I would pick for a healthy fit dog. People seem to be obsessed now with seeing extremely defined muscles and ribs on every breed 🫤

OK. Here's my two cents. Some breeds can be slim. It's mostly people who got super into working dogs and watched maligators with super slim and fit bodies, while all they had was a frenchie who do these dumb things. And yes, a frenchie isn't supposed to be slim and fit like this. Now. These two examples I'm OK with under some circumstances. One. Both dogs are actually working dogs, since working Russell terrier lines can be slim-ish. Two. They're not kept in hard working condition such as this year round. That I think is the most problematic. Great example in this are sighthounds and sighthound owners. For coursing season they get the dogs in proper running condition, which is safer. But once the work is done, then there's no longer a need to condition the dogs as hardly

It definitely depends on breed, build, coat, etc. I don’t think they are abused/really unhealthy level of under weight but they aren’t what I would call ideal weight. they look like working dogs struggling to keep weight on

Border collies normally have a fairly thick coat from what I have seen (even short haired ones) unlike sighthounds that have a thin coat, so if you are seeing ribs/muscles like on a sighthound they would have to be skinner then I shorter/less dense coated breed

angle of the camera and pose of the dog also makes a difference in pictures. The terriers not in a pose where I would expect to see so much definition on the ribs

whats really horrifying is when people expect this level of fitness on a puppy! :he
