Dog thread!🐾

Ah okay that’s true. But even so, I don’t think whippets are HYPER but I could be wrong as I’ve never met one. But being sprinters, they should wear out easily lol but yeah I think a Boston or pug would be good. And you can wear them out if you have stairs or a long hallway 🤣

I've never met a whippet either, so your guess is as good as mine. I just heard a whippet breeder (the one I really like) say that whippets are crazy puppies when she was called to talk about the breed. With Buddy we were told stairs before the age of one was a no no. Don't know if that's true. But I've found my ways of tiring out a dog. Running up and down a hallway is pretty tiring for me too, might force me to start runningšŸ˜“

Ohhh okay that all makes sense. Sorry

I was thinking fetch down the hall lol

This is so funny. NONE of the dogs I've ever interacted with past the "aw that one's cute, blah blah blah" has been taught how to fetch. Like I don't know if it's something in the food, or it's because they're Greeks, and thus, stubborn, but they just won't do it. So no need to apologize, I should be the one apologizing, because fetch never crosses my mind nowadays LOL

That is so odd! Fetch is huge here LOL

We had a whippet for a short time, but had to give her back to her previous owner cause she was too high energy and would chase and hurt our sheep we had at the time. She wasn't a puppy I don't think.

Took awhile before I had a dog interested in playing fetch. Misty's only interested in toys that squeak and used to get very protective of them, I was finally able to teach her how to play fetch fairly nicely (she still get over excited sometimes and accidentally bites my hand while I'm picking up the toy. By accident means she is trying to grab the toy not me). Winnie loves playing with balls, but I've not actually taught her "fetch" yet.

Then I'm definitely doing the breed justice by staying away. It must be the Greek dogs then. I've tried to teach Buddy to play fetch thrice, all failed. He likes catching the toy, he loves bringing the toy, but last minute he's like "you gotta work for it" and makes me chase him around

Maybe it helped that I wouldn't have let Misty play with those toys if she didn't learn to give them to me.
The first time a child finally played fetch with Misty I was so impressed! She'd watched me do it and then copied what I did. Misty always has to drop the toy and then sit, I doubt trying to take it directly from her would work.

I believe I tried that with attempt number two. But he had to get so disinterested in the game to drop the toy, that he wouldn't go fetch it again

Yeah, that's the adults. But I'm pretty sure the pups are like "I'm fast af boy" 24/7. Basically I want a short coated CavalieršŸ˜…. So I guess Boston or pug?
If you're wanting to do occasional long walks or hikes I would not recommend a pug - not because they don't have the energy, but because of their restricted airways. Most Bostons can handle it better. And for a Boston I would recommend a female. Although I've never had a male Boston, I've heard so many stories of male Bostons being crazy and hyper. My females were never overly hyper. Sure they would get the zoomies, but it wasn't all the time.
