Dog used pullets as a toy.. Help!

Those wounds are really not the worst I've seen.

Clean the wounds with Peroxide to get out the initial infection then clean with a Betadine scrub. Then, apply Neosporin (or Triple Antibiotic ointment) LIBERALLY all over. Do NOT stitch or close the wound. The skin will eventually grow back.

All of this will cost you MAYBE $10.00 and is handy to have around for the "just in case" factor that is always associated with chickens.

I know how you feel... it is an awful thing... Our foster dog attacked our flock a few months ago and played with all of them as toys (to her)... Most ended up with broken backs. Only 2 survived and one of them has a bad limp and does not lay eggs.

I am about to post about another issue... So I feel your pain for sure today. Our old chihuahua up and decided to take the wing off a 4 week old leghorn that was out for some fresh air. Poor thing is really suffering... not sure she will live. But we are doing antibiotics in the water... however, if they won't drink that is usually the end of them in my opinion.

All you can do is try your best to help. That's it.

I agree - don't close the wounds. Flush with a dilute Betadine solution (amber color - too concentrated and it actually kills tissue and prevents regrowth). Keep them warm. I use a heating pad on low under 1/2 the carrier. I've seen much worse and had complete success. Good luck.

I have some spray bandage I keep on-hand for my button-quails (with all the "bonk injuries") and I bet it would work well in this situation. You can get it at Tractor Supply...maybe 10$? I usually clean the injured area the best I can, use a mild anti-bacterial solution (whatever I have on hand) pat it dry and spray with the bandage.

This is the stuff I use....

Please don't get discouraged or put-off by all of the negative comments. Normally, this is a very warm, friendly and supportive forum. Sometimes peoples opinions can get in the way of the support.

I'll be praying for your babies!

Year ago I had hens get attacked by something and would do this to them- Just damage the necks! We always kept the Blue-Kote stuff for the hogs and I would spray them one time and keep them up in a pen or cage for a while and most recovered completely. Some even had chicks and still cared for their chicks and recovered. Never figured out what was getting to them but we set traps (didn't catch anything) but it went away by itself. Just keep them warm with plenty of food and water find something to put on their neck- neosporin- bactine- anything is better than no-thing and observe them closely. They will be down and out for a while though - I would be too!! Good luck!!

I had a dog yesterday kill a male swinehoe pheasant. I was ticked. But I fixed that. He wont kill anymore of my birds.
Before everyone gets mad at me, I DID NOT KILL THE DOG.

My grandpa just came over and brought goodies. we put first aid stuff on it (supposed to stop pain/sting and help heal) it was liquid and we made sure it was put all over the wounds. and then we sprayed an anitbotic powder on them. Plus he had some pill antibotic.(he said it was as old as the hills) We put that into a little water and forced it into their mouths. They put up a good fight though. Thats whats giving me hope. and he then forced a little food into their mouth. I said a few prayers and would love yours too.
St. Francis will help.
