Dog

If he's been recently fixed, well fed and well groomed, he's somebody's lost pet. The right thing to do would be to find his owners. Your neighbor has become attached after a day or two. Think how the family who probably had him longer than that is feeling. Maybe, after finding this little guy's family, you can help your lonely neighbor find a dog of his own.

im not sure, i think i want him to stay because our neighbor really likes him, and without him he is lonely. so I'm not sure about this situation yet...

There is 'no not sure' involved here. The right and moral thing for the dog and his owners is to try to return him to his rightful home.

i agree with all of you. i WANT him to stay.

but i know the right thing is to return him. we are going to ask around but there are very very very few neighbors here. but maybe its one of theirs. and besides we just moved in so we can get a chance to meet them. no matter what though, no matter how hard it will be to find this dogs neighbor and maybe never see him again, we are going to try. but if not then we will not give him to the pound, FOR SURE! he does not belong in a horrible place like that. plus, its hard to think of kids, like when our dog was missing, crying and wanting him to come home and wondering of he's alright. our dog came back though, and maybe he will too.
but its weird because he never had interest in going home last night even when it was pitch black he just sat around with us. our neighbor took him out today when he went shopping for groceries, and went slow so maybe the dog would recognize his place but he had no interest. I'm just plain confused.

I'm not sure a dog has the ability to look out the window of a moving vehicle and think, "Oh! This looks familiar!" I know that dogs are very scent-driven. How about calling a local radio station to see if they announce lost & found pets. Ads in newspaper within a 20-mile radius? Look for "lost" ads, place a "found" one. He may have traveled quite a distance, or as others have stated, been dumped from somewhere farther away. Take him to your vet so see if they can scan for a micro chip. Look inside his collar. Keep trying! You'll make someone very happy when you get him back home where he belongs.

ok i will try everything to get him back! i was just thinking the scent.. and we can't check for a chip because the closest vet to us is a few hours away. but were trying

That does complicate things. I'm glad you're trying to get him back to his owners. We've had a couple of dogs just disappear. It's very hard. And if you can't find the owners, it sounds like he might have a good home with your neighbor.

Another thought - can you at least call that vet and ask if they've had anyone report a missing pug? You just never know...

Agreed. Sounds like OP is willing to do that.

OP, you might also want to call groomers in the area if there are any.

why? he doesn't need a groom. he is in even better condition than our dogs. no matts, all brushed, and not a speck of dirt... well maybe a little.

I think what Chemguy is saying, is that you might want to contact local groomers to see if any of them have worked on this particular dog. If they have, they can give you contact information for the owners. (Chemguy, please correct me if I'm wrong.)
