Dogs (and I'm at my wits end sleep-deprived)

Quote:
Sorry rat shot might work on people" namely the owner of the dogs" but it won't work on the dogs or any other predator unles You blind them with it and that isn't good.

Tried a 410 shotgun at 50 yards and it worked for a day and they still came back one walked up behind me while I was feeding the chicks, I guess waiting his turn.

The ONLY thing you can do ( after You "talk" to the owner is S>S>S.

Its not fun, its distasteful, it is however final!

Still not something that I could take to court.
The Labs that killed all the hens were not wearing collars or tags. The one I killed while it was in the pen didn't have any ID. You can't get blood from a turnip.
If they had some ID, I'd have gladly persued it.
They killed 17 birds outright and I lost many others from injuries and stress.
It's insane to me that people just 'get dogs' and let them run loose. We are rural (there are 100's of acres of woods behind us).
In Aiken Co., I can kill anything that is a threat to my 'live stock'--- that includes poultry.

Wow, thanks for letting me vent, I thought I'd let it go, but I'm more pizzed than I realized .
Preview brought up a point....
Not pleasant, or tasteful, but necessary.

I agree!

Lisa, the pizzled.

Sorry for your loss and the P I A

Most time you will not know who's animals you are dealing with especially in the country. And if you do not know there is nothing you can do but SSS. If you do know and do not get any help from them SS and Shut up.

You have to protect your flock everyway you can by keeping predators out but when they persist..............

I must stress to try and deal with neighbors equitably but anyone who lets their animals destroy yours is sure not thinking of your rights or feelings.

Update!
Caught 2 dogs the last 2 nights. Good news is, the big black dog is no longer an issue (didn't have a collar???. It didn't have a collar, therefore, it must be a stray. It's dangerous for dogs to be running the hi-way. It's sad, but that's the way it it is ---the hi-way is dangerous.
I've already had a call if I'd seen their dog, 'Nope, I was wrong, that wasn't your dog I saw here. Sorry, ,just for the record, but it's dangerous to let your dog run loose up and down the road'.

Bad news is there was another pair of dogs in the yard stirring things up the next night --- trapped one of them.
Borrowed another big live-trap and have both traps set in hopes of catching the other tonight, too.
I just don't know what to think. I've had chickens here for almost 11 years and in all that time, only had one experience with other peoples dogs coming around here.

What is going on that has 'loosed the hounds from hell' on our hill?

(still sleep-deprived, but getting a handle on the situation)

I disposed of 2 hell-hounds (you don't want me to say it out loud, do you?).
I'm anticipating disposing of 2 others tomorrrow (2 traps) .

Dipsy.....I am SO GLAD you was able to get a few of them....and hope you can get the others as well. I am in NO WAY saying....KILL EM ALL...however....protect whats yours, by ANY means. If they were after MINE...oh yeah...SSS...broad daylight or night, doesnt matter. Its sad for the dogs....they do not know any better...however..they also have no feelings about your loss..and will keep coming back, untill you "stop" them.
