Dogs (and I'm at my wits end sleep-deprived)

Good for you! I hope you get all the mangy critters. Dogs are a problem around here, too. I can't let my chickens out of the coop unless I'm right there with them.
And the bad thing is, the people that let their dogs run loose - they are not taking care of them in other ways. Most of them die early from heartworms because they are not getting heartworm tests or medicine. Or they procrastinate getting the medicine until their dog gets heartworms, then they decide to put the poor dog through the treatment to get rid of them, which is really hard on the dog.
People can be so ignorant sometimes.
Well, I'd still rather live out here in the country, even with the aggravation. I'm sitting here listening to an owl hooting outside as I type this.

Hey Lisa,

Glad you are getting a handle on the situation. You know, i would never want to hurt an animal. i love them all. But i can not stand when other people make their animals your problem. It's not the animal's fault, it's the owners, for not taking proper care of them, training them correctly, keeping them on their own property. Too bad you can't trap the owners and nip this problem in the bud.

Again, so sorry. This must be very hard on you, and that just isn't fair.

Colleen

I'm just curious as to what is suddenly drawing them.
My bet is move-ins. Everywhere around Lisa is development and I'll wager that's it. Nothing stays the same.

If the dogs were that important to their owners, they'd keep them in their yards...jes sayin

I'm glad that you're taking care of the problem...since noone else around you seems to be helping...

"Hmm, Buddy, no I haven't seen him, would you like a hamburger?"

Good for you Dipsy, We have neighbors up the road from us who have two female retrievers, both just had huge litters of pups, they are terrorizing the farm animals in our area. Last week they were after our horses and well one of them didn't make it home. They ganged up on our blue heeler and killed him, they lay in the road and are a hazard to the cars driving that road. The owners have no clue what they are up to or just don't care, makes me sooo mad when I have my own dogs penned. Good Luck in getting the rest.

The owners have no clue what they are up to or just don't care,

Usually the latter. NO one who has dogs is clueless as to what they might be doing. Especially when they have been told. Most people like this feel that they are just dogs and shouldn't be penned up or controlled. After all, it's the country, right?

Makes me sooo mad when I have my own dogs penned.

We passed up buying a house recently because we wouldn't be able to erect the fences we would need right away. I guess we're the good guys.

UPDATE:
It is still generally accepted that you are justified in dispatching a dog that is threatening you or your family, a nuisance or destroying livestock, to include chickens. However, it is prudent that you do the following two things:
1. Notify the dog’s owner in writing if you know who that is. If you don’t know who that is and can’t find out with reasonable inquiry, so be it.
2. Notify the LE agency with jurisdiction.
Give them a copy of the written notice to the dogs’ owner if you have one and get a copy of the trouble call report from the LEO that comes to your home in response.
If you do these things and the canine bother persists, do what you must. This information came to me today from my friend who is a local county sheriff’s deputy.

I am sure that is the legal way of handling a troublesome dog. However, in the middle of the night you SSS and go about your business!

Dont disagree Elderroo but I wont handle it that way if presented with immediate danger to animals.

Lawyer told me once that if you have a pool and dont fence it you are negligent, if you fence it you are admitting it is dangerous and liable. If you make a big deal about the problem then everyone knows who did the deed. Hence the Shut up after the shoot and shovel. If you live in town " God forbid" Then you have to resort to other means of defending your animals. I am glad living in town is NOT one of my problems.
