Did animal control come and take the dogs? I sure hope they do something quickly. You have been through enough with them already. My sister has a Jack Russell. The thing was so determined and would attack any animal it could catch. He was fast and very scary. She finally had him put down. Hopefully the animal control officers can catch these bad dogs...

I had the same problem, only the neighbors dog would also try to attack my wife and I. The wife came home from work and the dog came at her so she ran in the house. She called me all hysterical she said the dog was in the coop. I was racking my brain as to how it got in. It literally chewed through the poultry mesh.

So I had already told the neighbors about their dog. They didn't care(crack heads)! So I called sheriffs department, told them it had attempted to attack us and had already killed one hen. They told me I had a right to protect myself and my livestock.

With that in mind....I told my wife to shoot the darn thing. When I got home from work, I had to drag a 75lb pitbull carcass across 5 acres to knock on the neighbors door and said here is your dog. Deputy came out after they called and looked at the evidence....pool of blood in coop, and one dead rooster. He told them they were out of luck. Have not had a dog problem since....they are all fenced in their own yard now.LOL

To protect myself we are not cruel to animals, as all of our animals except the chickens are rescues. 4 cats and 1 dog. We are avid hunters as well, so the wife did not let the dog suffer. It was a clean head shot.

Too many people get dogs (or pets in general, for that matter) without educating themselves on ownership in general first, or on the attributes of the breed they have chosen. It's the animals and other people who suffer as a result. Some folks truly are too dumb to live.

I'm sorry you've had the invading dogs.

big girl knickers! That's the way to handle the situation, go right to the owner and have a face -to -face talk. Sounds as if your neighbor wants those problem dogs removed for her. Animal Control is open today, hope you get assistance from them immediately.

Animal Control came by this morning after I called them again, looks like they took the dogs. Unfortunately, the dogs had already been for a visit this morning and took my two favourite Americana chicks. Hopefully this will be the end of it.

Sounds like it was unlucky to have 13 chickens, now we have 8

Thanks for everyone's support, it has been amazingly helpful. We're going to work on getting a .22 so we can take care of future problems if they happen.
