I've owned many German Shepherd Dogs and they are genetically programed to accompany their human and to wait eagerly for any command that they can fulfill. They are extremely unhappy if they are left outside all the time without human companionship. They are Velcro dogs, not suited to living outdoors with the livestock. So not the correct choice here.
