Dominique Thread!

#1 is definitely a rooster. #2 actually has me suspicious, the comb and wattles are so close to #1 I almost want to say male as well. But the darker feather color suggests female. Or it could be a cross-bred male. Or it could be a hen that is just maturing quickly. But #3 is a sweet little girl. :) Those are my guesses anyway.

One of my Dom/RIR hens quit laying after we put our roosters in the freezer. Anybody have any thoughts on this? I know which one it is (there are only 2). They are both 7 months old. These are our first chickens so we are newbies.

Oh, I have found that the laying ability of the Dominique, as well as their egg size, varies greatly.

Does anyone have a list of the various breeders and hatcheries and how the different lines compare?

I am most interested in
1. Close to Show quality, especially the proper Dominique body

2. Egg production and size

3. Roosters that don't like attacking people

I greatly appreciate it!

Thanks

Are you a member of the Dominique Club of America yet? We publish a breeder's directory and very informative newsletters. I would not suggest going through a hatchery for Dominiques, some have decent lines (they drop ship from good breeders, usually) others have very poor representatives of the breed. And not all breeders have good stock either I have seen eggs advertised on here and on ebay where the parent stock looked terrible.
