1) I keep approximately 12 breeders representing one line and my flock size is expected to expand to about 75 birds during growing season.

2) Used for meat, eggs and show.

3) Initial source from a single source: breeder for show/production. Subsequent replacement will be from incubator hatches only.

4 My brood stock is cooped and production stock is free-range starting approximately 16 weeks post-hatch.

Hello, I'm new to this thread but was wondering if anyone could tell me if Dominique or Barred Rock would be better for egg production? Also what are the biggest differences, aside from comb?

In order to be well informed you could read up on both breeds and learn about both and make you decision based on informed consent. Here on the Dominique thread people could prefer that breed for certain reason and the same applies to other breeds. On the Dominique thread folks like the history of this breed and many of use prefer the rose comb over the single. Both are fairly docile and good layers. The Dominique is a smaller in size. Just like everything else it is a matter of preference. The only truth is mathematics. says I

centrarchid to answer your poll. I would love to have a flock of free ranch Dominiques but since I am not allowed to have chickens and have a neighbor who loves to call the POLICE. My birds are housed at a neighbors house one mile away. So I have only one Dominique hen. So when possible, I would find a rooster of good quality from a breeder and start to have my very own flock of Dominiques poor me.........

ETA the reason I think they are male: The first thing that caught my eye was the amount of white coming in in the feathers. Second, the legs on the top one - no black wash on the front - that is typical for females. Last is the head spot. On both, it is large and splotchy/non-uniform. Can't see the legs on the 2nd one, but I'm betting there is little to no black.

Here's a pic showing the male on the left. Good luck with your chicks!

Truth is, birds of that caliber most likely do not exist. Some come pretty close, though. I takes years and years of work. Check out this thread, https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=400344

That's what's being discussed - how to breed Heritage breeds by the APA Standard of Perfection (where those photos came from).
