Mark gave me a trio of Voter birds. That first year, I was getting up to 50% white birds in every hatch and he (Mark) suggested adding another line as the white was objectionable, s. That's where Mr.Bloomer's lovely birds came in. Hindsight being 20/20, now of course, I wish I'd left the Voter birds together.

I did get a white pullet last year, but I would not swear that she is 100% Dom as I might not have isolated the hen quite long enough before saving eggs.

Fred mentioned that he kept three strains, and that he'd got birds from Mark, though I don't know which strain in particular these are..

Fred has Hyman for sure of which I have a nice trio. The last of Voters he had were given to me as 3 to 8 year old hens. Do you have any pure Voter males? Despite the throwing of recessive white, I feel the strain is worth preserving and possibly restoring. Presently I have some F1 cockerols (Voter hens x dual purpose production strain rooster) that will be backcrossed to the old hens. Hoping to get some white birds out of backcross to use in later test matings to remove recessive white allele. Fred and I did not discuss a third strain so I do not know what he had.

Hyman looks about right, especially for the cock. I was given those Voter birds about 15 years ago, and added the Bloomer strain the next year; "Madame Cue Ball" notwithstanding, I'm pretty sure at this point that while there's plenty of the old Voter blood, there's no pure Voter.

How much Voter is in your line? Percentage?.

Hi
frow.gif
, I am starting a new backyard flock of pets/egg producers and have 5 doms on my list (along with Salmon Faverolles, EE's, Australorps, BO's from Cackle).
My grandmother, who was born in 1925, remembers having barred chickens that her family called "domineckers." I assume they were Dominiques and not Barred Rocks. She says they caused a stir in her area when her dad got them. They were poor share croppers so I don't even know how he would have gotten them. Were there mail-order chicks in the 1930's? Anyway, since I am starting my flock over I thought I would include some. I wish I had the space to breed and time to show.

I really enjoyed reading your thread and learned a lot of new info. This breed thread is much nicer than some others in that you do not attack backyard fanciers like myself who depend upon hatcheries for their birds. You guys have almost caused me to convert my entire order to doms!

Hey fellow Dominique fanciers! So my husband brews his own beer, and his friend who is graphic designer (but knows nothing about chickens) made these beer bottle labels for him:

The only thing is my poor little Mr. Rue has a comb with a spike that doesn't turn upward at the end. I need to find a good headshot of a Dominique roo!

P.S. I just got in the mail one of the last few of Mark Fields books I just ordered from him
