Sad. We have a broody Dom hen (our first broody hen, ever) that's been sitting for about three weeks now, faithfully - on 4 eggs I selected from our breeders. From time to time, she'd have a sister sit with her at night on the nest - she too had broody behavior. It was sweet..

I have had such high hopes. Today I went to check, hoping to find chicks and she was off the nest, and the eggs were cold!!!! I was so sad! I guess it's for the best, with it getting colder and what not...

I couldn't resist doing an eggtopsy. There were 2 eggs left, as she broke 2 during the incubation. One ended up being unfertilized, but the other had a fully formed chick in it. There was nothing I could do.

At least I know our roo is fertile, so it's good, but sad information.

I got my first egg yesterday from one of my girls! It was Edie who laid first, who was also the first girl that I've seen mating with my roo. She laid another one this morning, which I wasn't expecting! I was just ecstatic!

Thanx for the welcomes. I will keep you all updated and will take pictures. I acquired the eggs from a backyard flock/local egg seller person-an hour away from me. I saw the birds and they were good looking, but I didn't study them to see if they were POS-not that I know what to look for, yet. I have quickly become a chicken snob

Well, if I'm going to "fool around" with chickens I want to do it right AND have some pretty birds. Right?

Gallusfarm,

You mentioned several posts back you got Doms from Bobs Biddies. How did that turn out? Do you think they are growing out to be good quality?

Hey there. On the suggestion of a few other folks on this page, I did order from Bob's - I know Kyhen did as well

... They are supopsed to be good quality. So far so good. I do have to say that they are full of vigor, which is great.

Oh - you're from West VA - which part? Well we are near Richmond, VA. Our 1st set of Doms came from a breeder out of NC - from the Gurney Davis line. If you ever come through this area, let me know if you want chicks ... There are pics of those on our website. And definitely check Bob's out. Don't know if he'll ship now, though...

Hey Suzette,
You are right when you say they are full of vigor. LOL I'm not used to my Doms. being a little on the fiesty side. They are growing great and feathering out.
