The roo with the pinky gray legs is probably a Cuckoo Marans rooster. They look like Barred Rocks, but with less distinct barring usually, and with that leg color. If I told you he was a Barred Rock way back when, I probably didn't see the leg color.
thank you Speckled Hen. Yes, it was awhile back and I didn't notice the legs then. I really appreciate your input. So now, I do not have any barred rocks! I finally know what I do have!!
Thanks to all of you who have helped and posted pics.
Thank you hunny... I appreciate the links!!!! By the way, I do not have any Dominiques... YET
My BR roos have yellow legs also...
Ahhhh I cant find the pics of my BR roo... Looks like I am going to have to go out tomorrow and take pics again LOL... hmmm I'll use any excuse to do that!!!
I will post them once I take them... they are right now 21 weeks.
Rooster-Red Oh he is beautiful... you mean thats what I have to look forward too?????
Quote:
He's a 1 1/2 years. He belongs to my DS, was an easter chick give to him by his Sunday school bus driver.
Thats how the whole chicken thing started for me.
heehee... chicken crossing sign ordered.... thank you, thank you, thank you. LOL... Once my eggs get steady and we start selling... I needed a sign so no one would run over my babies!!! they love to cross our driveway!!! I also saw a few more little things I wanted... DH is going to KILL me LOL... I will be sure not to let him know you showed me the sights... LOL... he would not let me come to play or talk anymore
Rooster-Red that is too cool!!! I got into chickens because it was costing us about $8.00 a week just to buy eggs to feed the family!!! And that is not counting the extra eggs needed for deviled eggs that they all love!!! Cheaper for me to raise them at those prices!!! Plus I have meat too if I have too... But you know... now I know what to give out at easter time to the bus driver LOL
Well, guys, I thought I had one lone b.r. rooster and told my dh that we will probably put him in the pot but Donna (from Alaskan crew) just told me that the hens lay large dark brown eggs and it was a breed she really wanted so now he has had a reprieve!
How can I raise chickens for meat as well as eggs if I get attached or name them???
yup,
Does that mean your keeping him or giveing him to donna?
I need to look up the color inheritance again and see what happens if you cross it with a Dom.
He has already been breeding with the others. Trouble is...I have several different breeds...all brown egg layers. When I got into this I was totally ignorant on chickens. I would have stuck to one breed or else found a way to separate them all if I had did some research. It should be interesting now. All my pullets will be 21 weeks this Thurs and only two doms have laid eggs as yet. Lt. brown and small.
