Mom update!

Humidity is holding steady at 50 and temp is 99.5 still air but I figured I wouldn’t ask her to change the temp cuz you never know. Steady seems the better choice right now!

Temp is good but I would up that humidity. Put a wet wash cloth or something to up it- it's ok if the top fogs all up they have a hard time hatching because the shell is hard

I’ve thought about that but since I’m not there I’m a little paranoid about adding more humidity because if it spikes I don’t want my mom to have to open the bator. She just texted me an update and the little one that’s pipped is moving around inside the egg so that’s good. I probably won’t go over tonight anymore cuz it seems okay. Will go tomorrow and add another bowl of water since it seems that’s the only way to keep it consistent. Sponge or wash cloth had made it go all over the place so at the moment I’d rather opt for steady even if a little low

Ha! At least you can watch from afar....might be good, or bad....
..and you're only 20 minutes away if needs rises.

My mom is checking every hour, she’s amazing! Temp is holding steady at 100 right now and humidity hasn’t changed either so I’m gonna leave it be for tonight and check tomorrow. The less I mess with it the better I feel so it really is a good thing I’m away cuz I know I’d be taking the pipped one out to check it lol

The reason we are advocating for upping humidity is because its not a big deal if it spikes, it wont “drown” the ducklings like it might earlier in incubation, if kept high for many days. But as they are hatching they are no longer in danger of having too small of an air cell or too much water in the amniotic fluid since those are problems that only happen with prolonged high humidity before lockdown. These ducklings are starting to breath with their lungs, not relying on the shell for that.

With humidity at 50% i would worry you are still in the danger zone for shrinkwrapping or stuck babies. of course its still up to you, i know it must be hard to have someone else watching them.

Best of luck! Cheering for you!

Agrees.....but you don't want condensation dripping off lid.

I really appreciate the reassurance too high won’t hurt them! I’m going by tomorrow afternoon to check on everyone and while I’m home I’ll try to get the humidity higher! I’ll add a few more water bowls since they seem to be the most reliable in terms of keeping a steady humidity as opposed to a sponge that my mom would have to wet every few hours. Also noticed a sponge seemed to mess with the temperature too (which btw went up to 100.5 on its own so yay!) so I’ll stick to bowls haha

Makes sense! I’m sure there’s a fine line
