Double yolker on day 14

I got some medication today. It's not corid, but treats coccidiosis and is the only one available here. I'll keep my flocks locked up for 8 days and hope it works! The other day I lost two month-old chicks too :(
And I noticed my BR hen has lost some weight, so I picked her up and noticed that one of her pupils is oval, not circle. Is this a symptom?

An oval pupil and weight loss sounds more like Marek's.

Sorry Luna that's what I thought when I saw angels pic but I didn't want to jump to conclusion. That's why I told you to wash your hands after you handle her I hate to say this but seminolewind is right that's what I would be researching anyways. I hope it isn't really I do. best of luck

There has been no paralyzation in any chooks so far, just weight loss and loss of appetite, resulting in death eventually from that. Well, they're on medication now, so I'll see what happens...

There's different types I think the age groups affected different ways I really don't know much but I read paper and it had pics. I thought of that paper when I saw angel. Here in Australia our vets have to report it to dpi. Its quite serious here and only dpi can give advice. This is done to protect our massive commerical poultry industries. There's a mareks thread its really good info its pretty big thread really active think its called mareks in the flock not a disaster. That would best place to ask they are experienced with the symptoms and disease itself.

Oh. I live in Australia too. I have checked that thread out for the first few pages, I'll go back and read more.

That thread I susgested is for Americans I thought you were there we don't do the breed for immunity stuff. Mareks is one of our more serious diseases and vets here freak out bout it. Its the start of worms and mite season that could definitely account for weight loss. And if they got mites they get anemic it can cause death. The change to the eye I haven't a clue tho. mareks not too common here. Mites and worms are i use a pig and poultry wormer and yay its getting hot enough the wash everyone now no more powders. not sure but you could check our oz forum for more relevant diseases to australia in regards to the eye sorry I don't how to Link you. maybe it just inflamed you sure it changed shape could it have been that way since hatch. I have plymouth that hatchd blind in one eye didn't pick it up til 18weeks it opens and closes and looks normal but she walks into stuff on that side and completely misses grain on that side her favourite is corn she searches the feeder for it if she flicks it to blindside she wont chase it. We did the scare test too she doesnt react on that side goes ballistic on the other tho.

Here's a thread by a guy from Australia who had to deal with Mareks in his flock. He started the thread in January 2013 and it is over 130 pages now and is still an active thread. Lots of good info in there:

Thanks eveyone for the help. I forgot to mention, Angel got better for a few days, and then died unexpectedly after looking healthy. I'm not sure if my BR was born with an eye like that or not, but she looks like she's gaining a bit more weight. The only other chooks I've gotten recently from other places were a trio of BRs and some silkie eggs last month for hatching. No symptoms again so far from any flocks, and healthy weight gains in my brooder. Most other chooks are a little skinnier-looking, I'll weigh them again tonight.
