Great pictures! Can you dig that yellow mass of pus out? I'm am not a vet, but I think if you can get all of that pus out you might not have to amputate.

I can try. It's pretty solid. I've removed as much as I could while holding him by myself.

Try wrapping him in a towel like a burrito that may help while your working on him.

Try like @Miss Lydia suggested, or maybe find someone to hold him for you. That yellow stuff is infection/pus, so all of it needs to come out. It's probably attached to the healthy tissue, so it will probably bleed a little. You've heard of bumblefoot, right? This is sort of the same.

Always better not to have to cut things off if it can be avoided! For the poor duck and the person having to do it. I think having to do something like that would probably be the last straw for my DH!

I'll give it a go this evening. I'll get some smaller sharper scissors to cut it away. I have orajel for numbing. Should work I think.

You might wanna try pulling it out with tweezers, the majority of it should just pop out. Once out, you will need to remove any pieces still stuck to the skin.

That is what I use to work on bumble foot sterile tweezers much better than scissors.

Well, I've managed to perform minor surgery of sorts. This is graphic, but this is what came out.. here is is after. I applied antiseptic and neosporin, and a bandage.
He seems in good spirits. I've added probiotics and electrolytes to his water, and a little low dose aspirin.
