Drake prolapse?

I just went out to check on my ducks, and my drakes penis is hanging out and dark colored. I’ve heard at the end of mating season, it shrivels up and dies like an umbilical cord. I don’t know if that’s a myth, or valid?? I’m not sure if that’s what I’m seeing, or if he has a prolapse. Any suggestions?

That’s def a prolapse can you take him to the vet that looks like it may be infected or getting that way since it’s already dark. You can try to put it back let him sit in a tub of cold water make sure it’s clean then put some antibiotic ointment and try to push it back in thinking it may not work but worth trying

Thank you! I saw him about an hour sooner and didn’t notice anything.. I’m having a horrible duck weekend. One has bumblefoot, a strained leg, now this

There’s not an avian vet around me... I may try a sugar soak, I’ve done this in cats and dogs with prolapses before, and I’ll cross my fingers. I just noticed it and I’ve been keeping a close eye on them.. hopefully that was some help::?Thank you for your help!

If he were mine I would clean it really well and figure out if it's infected, alive, or dead. Keep in mind that this can be quite serious if left untreated and can result in death.
