Hello,

my sister accidentally dropped an egg that had already pipped the airsack and caused the shell to break. It seemed to be drying inside the egg so she helped it out after allowing it to stay long enough to absorb the yolk. We tried putting the chick under the hen but she kept pecking at it. It’s under a heat lamp now but we noticed a small red bump on its abdomen. Any ideas on what it is?Please any help would be appreciated.

Yes, it’s walks around and has drank some water. It’s only been a few hours since it hatched and it still drying up. The lump has been drying as well and has shrunk in size.
Hopefully it will continue to shrink.
You don't see any discharge coming from the lump do you?

Keep her warm like you are doing. I would put her on paper towels or puppy pads instead of shavings until she heals up.
Mama hen may not take her back, so be prepared to brood her yourself.

No, there’s no discharge. I had her on a towel because mama pecked at her when she saw her but we placed her under her again about two hours ago while mama slept and they’re doing fine now but we’re keeping an eye on them.

Good to hear everything is going well. Make sure to keep that wound clean if you see any dirt get inside, good it's shrinking up!
