wish i had that manny, and i wish i lived closer because i would deff buy some from you. I tryed shipped eggs and had bad results, only 3 out of 12 hatched. I hope to find a proc roo for my two hens. There is actually a guy who i met who shows d'uccles and is also an APA judge, he had nice looking ones.

I have 15 chicks I'm raising until September, at which point I will decide who stays and who goes. I've parted with a few chicks here and there, but now I'm going to hang tight.

The problem with broody-raised chicks is they take longer to work with when it comes to taming them. I select for personality as much as visual traits. I need to be able to handle the birds to know that a judge can at the shows. And I'm adding in some new shows this year!!

Good for you, getting involved in the shows. One day when I have a lot of $$ and can travel the country to all the different shows, we shall meet lol. As far as the friendliness, my mille fleurs are naturally tame. The mother is tame so that helps as well. Now, when I had some porcelains, I dont know if I just had a bad group or what but they were wild and panicked everytime they saw a hand going for them, and they were hand-raised. But mille fleurs are a gentle breed, in my experience.

My chicks are pretty chill, although they much rather perch on my finger then be held, i guess that's from them sitting on my hand while i typed on BYC, lol

I have noticed a difference in temperment too! The porcelain chicks I kept from Ideal are more flight than the ones I've hatched myself or bought from Estes through the feed store. I don't think there's a lot of Veteran d'uccle breeders out there that can easily be found on the Internet, which is the reason for this thread.

Yup, I've had 2 locations that hold regular shows in my area, farthest is about 45 minutes away. But will start going to a set held in GA that are reported to have more variety of bantam. OEGB are the big deal in this area, so the featherfeet get skimmed over IMO.

Someday I would love to have enough $ myself to go to the big shows up north. Will have to wait a while though. DD is starting high school and I know band trips will keep me busy until she graduates. DH is a little distressed to find that his dream about someday retiring and getting a big camper might end up involving chicken shows

My current goal is to someday see a black d'Uccle. I imagine they are drop-dead gorgeous.
Am crossing my MF roo to my lavender hens to see if can create my own black d'Uccle, while improving their feather quality. Can't wait to see what comes of this grand scheme...
But I have to wait 3 more weeks, at least

Yes, I

at the thought of a black d'Uccle with a green sheen. We'll see what happens.
Since they'll be split to lav, I'm planning to get back to lavs with the same pretty, even tone, but with less shredding at the edges of the feathers.

A set of black d'Uccles will be a fringe benefit, as well as the other markings I get due to the cross. DH just rolls his eyes, but I'm really excited to see what happens. DD will help me track results. That way when she needs a science project we'll have a unique one already in progress.

I feel sorry for my millies. As teens they look drab compared to the lavender birds, and yet they are the higher quality bird. I hope to have high quality lavs some day.
And I would like an even, pale buff-colored d'Uccle so that I have 'silver & gold' birds running around my yard.
