Chicks are hatching in my golden/mix color pen!
Bad news is I found one dead, another egg zipped but not broken out and dead, another nearly dead, away from the moms and eggs! I put it back, hopeful for it. Another had just hatched and had some shell stuck to it, so I removed the stuck pieces, hopefully it will be ok. :th

First time moms, but I hope to see some chicks running around when I get back home.

This one was dead, anyone have a guess on color?

Oh my goodness? U think it is cause it is so hot? Or what happened?
I'm new to d'uccles so I'm no help....hopefully more experienced will chime in soon.

Only the d'uccles do this...they know exactly where the treats are! I hope they don't figure out how to open it up and help themselves! Lil boogers!

Possibly, or just first time moms, or maybe because 2 are sitting together. When I got home, the almost-dead one was fully dead now. :( The one that I pulled shell from is alive, I stuck it under the older hens chest. Seems to be doing ok. I just don’t think these chicks are the hardiest. They usually hatch great! Then die. Does anyone else experience this? I had the same issue with my porcelains, but they hatch more numbers, so I seem to get more that live. I don’t have this issue with seramas or any other breeds I have.

I only incubate so can't compare.
I'm so sorry though...it is horrible to lose lil babies!

So far, I had only incubated them also. My old girl hadn’t gone broody, but she surprised me this year. I was hoping they would have better luck.

I should let my bantam cochin hen sit on some! I think I’ll do that, once they start laying again, and a cochin is broody.

Me too!!!

Beautiful babies you have!!! How old is Calla? (LUV their lil names!!!)
Mine wanna fit in with the other so badly but they just aren't havin it. Atleast they let them eat out of the same bowls now so progress!
Thanks 😍 their names seem to suit them well too, personality wise. They’re just sweet and chill and so smart!

Your others will eventually accept them! It’s hard to deny their persistence and sweet and curious nature! :)

I think we need to new close ups of your little cuties!

I’m so sorry so many of your babies didn’t make it! :-( I do think they are a bit more fragile. @Poodlemum had some issues with her babies too! I had really poor hatch rates in my batch. I had 13 d’Uccles eggs and only 2 lived. 3 hatched but the the third was not meant to stay with us sadly. :-(

It was so horrible and frustrating! I think it was weather related. Our batch from Meyers in perfect temps was very successful thank goodness! And I think only 3 roos out of the 8 🎉
