D'uccle Thread

I would put them with him, I'm only keeping a few of my 'mixed' birds for egg-layers. I'll get a pic of the other girl if she isn't hiding

I'm not sure what she'll be! Her back is a pale grey, almost like the lavenders get. I'm not sure if she'll feather out like a porcelain or a goldneck. She's a surprise.
She has 2 sisters that pipped but haven't hatched yet. Can't wait to see if they are the same.

These are especially precious since they're pullet eggs. And for that reason they may all be similarly colored if only one pullet had started laying. I wasn't sure they'd hatch, so I'm keeping a close eye on them. More are due to hatch on Saturday through Sunday.
I did wait until they were not truly miniature, so hopefully that means no one has trouble escaping her egg.

I took a hard look at my birds today. The 'lemon blues' need a pet-quality home. I'm going to try and get a good pic of them tomorrow and post them. They are pretty girls, but no middle toe feathers at all. Good slate legs and dark eyes, pretty blue (where they're blue), and even the gold is pretty. But their muffs are not coming in thick, nor is their beard. That may be an age-related change as they are only 3 months old. The bare toes is an issue, though.

Good luck, spook!

Had a conversation with Ronnie about that. I told him I was a failure at using the henk's calculator and he just laughed and laughed.
The he said the same thing you just did, about breeding perfect to perfect and getting crap. He said those birds can surprise you every time. He also said to keep the good 'sports' because they might turn into something.
The brown red in the show was from the sport pen. He said he doesn't know what went into him, so breeding him will be a roll of the dice. But he sure is a pretty bird!

From other guys at the show, who breed d'Uccles, I heard other stories about buying birds 'from the best' and then having them throw crap babes. Yellowed out, or gold-sheened whites is a real issue I guess, from all the cross-breeding.

I gotta tell you, it was FUN talking to so many people who breed d'Uccles in one place!! I went back to DH, after meeting Ronnie, and said, "Honey! I got to talk to someone who loves talking about 'my' birds!!!"
He said, "Gee thanks, Honey."
"No really!! I can talk about breeding birds, and color schemes, and their eyes don't glaze over!!"
He laughed.

Lori, do you have any pictures of Ronnie's MF D'uccles? I spoke with him over the phone about buying some but we never got that far...was curious to see how his looked.

Thanks,
Nathan

Ronnie hasn't shown the past couple of years because he's been ill. He's on dialysis 3x a week, so I'm not sure how many shows he'll make it to. This one was 20 minutes from the house. He and his son were very pleased to see how many people were buying d'Uccles, even if there weren't a ton of them in the open show. Probably about 25.

GC, he is working on Silver milles!! He's about 3 years into it. He said they look good the first year, but get too much gold on them after the first molt. He's about 4 generations into them. He's not ready to sell any yet, though. He's about 40-60 minutes from my brother's house, so I'm hopeful I can get together again with him sometimes later in the year and learn more from him. Maybe we can work out the white d'Uccle thing then.

Ron is such a nice guy. I have some of his birds and just got 8 more. I've also been trying to beg off some Silver Milles or Silver Porcelains from him. LOL.

Sorry Nate, I failed on that. I got a row shot, but got interupted before doing individual pics and never got back to them in time. When Ronnie showed up I helped him get out and clean up each bird for the show, so it never occurred to me that I hadn't gotten pics until we were on our way out the door. And we were drop-dead tired by then.

His millies had more white than mine, but much less white than my TX millies. He said the brightness is the important thing. The black & white shouldn't blend in and out of each other, but be very distinct and crisp.

I'm really sorry I didn't get pics
