D'uccle Thread

yes they come in black as well as a wide array of other colors. They arent as common as say the millies and porcelains, but they do come in a dozen or so colors that are readily available and then another 15 or better rarer colors.

Where in other species like ducks, self just basically means a solid colored bird, self blue, self black, self chocolate....just duck terms for a solid color patterned bird.

The only "SELF" color in chickens is self blue, lavender, meaning they are a "blue" that breeds true basically. Some breed specific groups like the polish folks, like to add "self" infront of all their colors too, but techincally it's not a chicken thing. To me it's kinda like calling a dun bird chocolate, even though it's brown, it's not a "chocolate".

I have a Black D'Uccle Hen. However, I don't have a roo to go with her. She is a very sweet girl.

It will get there, I am sure! The people currently handling the processing of checks and memberships no longer have chickens and are on the verge of 'retiring' from the club. I think I'm taking over the position in January....

That's what Karl and I discussed on Saturday, anyway!

I have a flock of lovely black d'Uccle pullets that won at Crossroads against a long-time breeder. On Saturday I talked him into trading me his black cockeral. He is currently falling in love with his new flock and I hope to hatch some chicks in about 7-8 weeks!

I need to take and post some pics. He's gorgeous, and smaller that my previous black roo. Really nice form, too.....

Just breed her to your black mottled. All the chicks will just be blacks anyway. They will be split for mottled the first time, so if you breed them together you will get both blacks and black mottled, but they will breed true after that. You can also take your first F1 chicks and select the best male from the group and breed him back to this black girl, all their offspring will be black that way.

This is Amber, our only remaining mille fleur d'Uccle. She is close to 4 years old and I was wondering what her good points were and what you see as weaknesses. I am looking to get into breeding d'uccles eventually and would love to know how close she is to the SOP? I am a newbie to this so any information/ instruction will be very helpful.

These pics are of Amber a few weeks ago, she was not quite done regrowing her feathers after a pretty heavy moult so take that into consideration as you look at her.
