D'uccle Thread

Who told you he was black mottled with leakage?
He is mille fleur in coloring. He may have black mottled in his genes, but he is expressing pure-looking mille fleur.

Traditionally, red leakage is only on the hackles. The rest of the bird would be black with white spots if it were black mottled.

I learn something new here everyday! So he's considered a mille huh? I thought he was way too black and I didn't know what to call him. You can't show this type of mille coloration right? I mean, you could show, but he'd never win. He's got wattles that are too big anyway. I just think he's pretty, even if he's not perfect. He came from a normal mille roo and a blue mottled hen.

On another note, a bunch of my mille chicks have strange coloration too, I'll try to get some pics up soon, they have black heads and a lot of dark feathers, which is odd, because they came from a normal mille and a porcelain. You just never know with these guys!

He's go too much black to be a good mille fleur, and too much red to be a mahogany mille fleur. Still a pretty boy, though! And if his coloring were good, and foot feathers were good, then I'd enter him despite the wattles. They don't knock off more than 1 point.
I get some darker millies from my SQ flock. Some start dark and then go to normal coloring. Some are always not quite right....

Here's a pic of my black mottled roo w/ leakage. Can't wait to see what his chicks look like!
That iss an awesome looking D'uccle.....I have never seen that combo color scheme. Not a winning show bird unfortunately but still beautiful:) Im jjust winging it becuase I dont know the exact charactereistics but couldnt that be considered a Barbu D'uccle?? correct me if im wrong

So when you guys say too much black what do you think this one will be like? I have a brother of his that doesnt have nearly as much black. So Ill prob get rid of this one then:(

'Barbu' means bearded, so YES! ;)

But still, this one is caught 1/2 way between regular & mahogany mille fleur... In my opinion, anyway!

That's a lot of black, but he's very young. If space is a limit, rehome him. But if you have space, wait and see what he molts out closer to adulthood. It may just be taking a while for the black to 'migrate' to where it is supposed to go.
