D'uccle Thread

I can't see it good. Broken feather tips can be from over grooming; but if the feathers have chewed off little squares it is a particular kind of lice. A feather eater takes the whole feather. That sucks about missing the show!
It does! It stinks since she's a Mille because now her pretty black and white tips are missing!

I've also got a bantam black Wyandotte with the same thing..

Quote: Nope, I don't have a rooster in their pen now. It showed up one random day and I noticed it when I went out to feed. I've continuously had a problem with mice around here and the pesky varmints used to chew off my birds tail feathers.

I'm thinking that may be the problem.. but I'm still not positive.

Yep, looks like mouse damage to me. Feathers are a great source of protein.

I can't say as i've ever had that problem! You gotta get those mice before they kill your birds. All it would take is one bit of blood...poor things! Prob not sleeping good either.

Make a little box with a chicken wire side. Secure mouse traps in there, voila! Birds can't get to them but the mice can. I have an old rabbit cage that i use sometimes to set traps in, when i build my new coop i'm adding the box with the wire as a permanent feature. Good luck!

Hello All, Please forgive my ignorance with these questions. We have only LF so I don't know bantams at all. My son just saw his first D'uccle and it was love at first sight. He is 14 in a couple weeks. He said they are the coolest chickens he's ever seen! We actually have some pretty neat chickens so I think it's just love talking

First, I've seen D'uccles listed as plain D'uccle and sometimes as bantams. Is there two sizes or are the ones listed as plain expecting you to know that this breed only comes bantam sized?

See, told you we know nothing about them.

Second, we are in California. Do you have recommendations for good breeders? My son wants good stock that he can show. He got very excited about the D'uccle!

Third, do they require special care beyond that of which I would already give to our breeders?

Thank you for your input

D'uccles only come in bantams. They don't really need any special care. I would just check there foot feathers occasionally to make sure they aren't breaking off or irritated- but I would do that with any feather footed breed

Thank you - we have Brahma's too. That's rather the other end of the spectrum in size but same concept for feet. My son want to show these so they won't be running the yard.

Any suggestions on breeders?

I don't really know that many breeders of D'uccles. There is Dick Horstman (sp). I am not sure where he lives. Maybe contact some other people on here that are from california like Papabrooder or.....

Are there any breeders in Oregon? I am really looking for mille fleur, but I am open to other options.

Thanks in advance,
