D'uccle Thread

Any thoughts on these cuties? We're new to them and not familiar with the standard yet. Thanks in advance for any pointers. :)

That roo has a really stalky body type...Im not a pro but he could be correct with that. He also has great foot feathering:) Unfortunately they look to have too much white except maybe for the hen hiding in the 2nd pic

True actual Chocolate - Pure English Bantam Orpington. I think I said Cochin before, oops! I'm extremely short on Mille Fleurs (one pullet only

) so I'm going to put him with a couple Porcelain hens in the spring. There are a couple breeders here whom I've been talking with, and I'm getting more chicks from them in the spring - Black, Self-Blue and Milles. This is a very long-term project, lol.

I must say that the English Bantam Orpingtons are very beautiful and gentle. Very fluffy, too.

He will wreck havoc with the proper d'Uccle feathering for a while, but I should be able to get them conquered in a few generations. It's the color I want...
OOOoo! I'll take rejects, lol. I like orpingtons, too! They go broody easy, and mine layed through the winter with no extra lighting! Post lots of pics!!!
Except for the fact that I plugged in the incubator :p
made me smile! :) lol

I agree. His body type looks great, but he does have too much white, along with the hen. The one hiding looks good though.

Oh you going to join a our NYDH. Someone in my Mille pen is laying, and someone in my Blue Mille pen is checking out the boxes. YEAH

I agree also, you could take hime back to a girl that had more black and see if you can keep the body type and lose some of the white. The girl has way too much white.
Not in NYD hatch, but hatching what can't be shipped. And in time for a visit from my nieces :D

Bear in mind that we don't know the age on the hen with all the white. If she's an "old lady" then she'd have more white on her as well. So I'd breed with both, see what they throw, and keep the best of the youngsters.

In case you're referring to the pictures I posted, they are "old ladies". They're at least 2 years old. All of those pictures are of 2+ year old chickens. Does that make a difference?

Thanks!

My d'uccles are 20 weeks old now. They are getting more and more friendly. My cockeral still isn't crowing. They are all pretty quiet, unless they see the treat bucket. Then they come flying over to me. The only bantams I've had before have been sizzles and silkies which don't fly, and my LF don't either so it was a shock when they first did it, lol.
