D'uccle Thread

I've found in MF that chick down has absolutely no correlation to adult plummage. Believe me, I wanted to believe it would be easy to cull lesser quality birds at a young age, but with d'uccles, all you can do is wait until they are at least six months old.
Anyone else care to comment on this one? If there's a system, I would love to know it!
I had 3 MF chicks, day olds. Their down shades went from light, to dark. I found that my cockerel, the darkest one, had more black, and was actually lacking a lot of white. The middle shade chick was a caramel color, while the chick with the lightest shade is still the lightest. I don't know if it works that way, but that's how it worked for me.

I do love mine already, their wings and tail feathers are just showing the passed couple of days. So far, despite three colors of down, the feathers are the same base color. They are bossy little things lol. Much more curious and assertive than the larger and araucanas they are with. I love watching them zoom around the brooder. Two will already accept treat insects from my fingers.

Hi :) I got some d'uccles a few months ago and I've become so addicted to this breed!! I would love to learn more about them so I finally joined this site.

I recently hatched some eggs from my girls and the fluffy babies are sooo cute!!!
There's one chick that has a really interesting colour. Its dad was a mille fleur and mum was a silver mille fleur, so it looks a bit like both right now. Not sure what it'll look like fully feathered... I know the colour wouldnt be showable but I think it still looks really pretty :) I was just wondering if anyone has seen it before? I'm hatching some more eggs from them, is it likely that I'll get more in this colour?

Also it's just over 2 weeks old right now, I'm guessing its still too early to guess the sex?
