D'uccle Thread

Hello everyone! I recently got some bantams from TSC. When I posted photo here to get a breed idea, some seem to think I have one of these D'uccle chicks. Looking at its picture, does anyone have a slight idea of how the coloring of the feathers might turn out? If you can post a photo of an adult that might be similar to the coloring, that would prob help more since I'm new to the "chicken talk" . ;-)

The chick to the far left, brown with tan and black wing tips in the very first picture... is a Millie for sure.... not for sure about the color/breed of the others....

I would say you have 2 Silkie. The two in the back white and buff. Do they have 5 toes. The front rights looks like a Cochin probably black. I agree the front left is Milli Fleur.

I know I have 4 silkes. Pretty sure 3 white & was really hoping for the one to be a buff!! They all do have black feet with 5 toes. Its the other two that have me wondering. The d'uccle photos I have seen are gorgeous, but all different colors. Wondering if anyone has any idea of what colors my D'uccle might be. I'm very excited as I have never even saw a D'uccle in my life! Does anyone know if I'll ever be able to house my 6 bantams with my RIR hens? They are 2yrs old. I know I have to wait until these ones are bigger, but how big do the D'uccles get?? Should I just say the heck with it & get them their own coop & run??

I would say the heck with it and get them their own coop & run. Mine have their on coop and freerange fine with the LF, but would get picked on in a closed setting. This is a pic of my Milli roo. He is the sweetest thing. He has to much white in his coloring but has the thick neck that is desirable.

Now this is one of my D'anver hens for you to see good color.

It will feather out almost red and then start getting its spots at about 3 months.

Do any of you experienced D'uccle breeders sell eggs?

I purchased some from Ebay, local pick up so they wern't shipped. The fertility was terrible. Only 2 out of 18 eggs made it!

My son really wants to get started in MF and blue mottled. Please let me know if you are willing to ship eggs - or chicks! Thank you

I have a genetics mystery on my hands and am hoping you nice people can help me out. My aunt has a pen with these guys in it:

I have never had bantams but I had an untried broody and thought the Silkie D'Uccle mix might be fun so I gave her 8 eggs from this pen to hatch. I got 8 chicks on Saturday 4 are Silver and 4 are gold. Here are two (one of each) with their broody mama.

So my question is do you think the reason they are two different colors when their parents are either MF or White is that they are sex linked? If so which would be which? Any guesses would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

SINCE D'UCCLES AREN'T SEX LINKED, i CAN'T ANSWER THAT QUESTION. i CAN SAY THAT YOUR WHITE SILKIE MAY HAVE OTHER COLOR GENES THAT THE WHITE IS COVERING UP, IF IT'S DOMINANT WHITE. tHE LITTLE TAN ONE LOOKS LIKE SHE MIGHT BE MILLIE FLUERED, BUT ONLY IF THE SILKIE IS CARRYING A SPOTTED GENE.
THE GRAY WITH BLACK IS A MYSTERY, AS USUALLY GRAY COVERS UP BLACK. tHE ONLY WAY TO GET GRAY AND BLACK ON AN ADULT BIRD IS IF THEY ARE CARRYING DOM WHITE THAT LEAVES "HOLES", OR TWO COPIES OF BLUE THAT CAN LEAVE SOME HOLES AS WELL. i HAVE LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF THIS, SO IF ANYONE WANTS TO CORRECT ME, FEEL FREE. THE LEGS ARE KINDA SHORT FOR D'UCCLES. i WANT TO SAY THOSE ARE STUBBY COCHIN LEGS...
