Self blue - the porcelains have tan/cream in their feathers even at 3 days old and they also have a yellow head.
Call your TSC and ask where they get their chicks, they should be able to tell you the hatchery...Michigan is using Privett and Townline this year. So the only options in the banty bin for michigan are Silkie, Old English, Sebright, cochin and D'uccle...the only fuzzy feets are D'uccle and cochin....so if you know what color chicks to look for you can figure out the d'uccle's. i picked up 7 at the local TSC but they only had one porcelain, the rest all appear to be mille Fleur and i might have gotten a cochin or two. They were 2-3 days old so not much feather to check. We also got a male and female pekin. How can you tell if a day old chick is a d'uccle, I'm thinking about doing the same thing, getting from a TSC.
Definately looks like Mille FleurI picked up what I believe to be 4 mille fleur d'uccles at TSC today, and just wanted to confirm that this is in fact what they are? I'm glad I did because the poor things were suffering from pasty butt terribly and it was so bad that at least 2 of them would have died from it within a few hours, and since there were dozens of chicks left in the bantam bin and almost no one buying chicks it didn't seem likely that they would have been taken care of in that time. They seem to be doing alright so far. They look exhausted in this photos because it wasn't long after we got home and set them up. It was nearly dark so I wanted to quickly take a photo of each while I could.
I actually have 2 mille fleurs on preorder at a breeder, so I was hoping for porcelains, but once I could see them properly I knew they couldn't be. They are mille fleur d'uccles, aren't they?
Also, how old might they be? They seem to have a decent amount of feathering on their wings but they are tiny.
i agree they look between 5-7 days old.yes, looks like mille fleur pattern, just not a lot of black in their pattern. they look about a week old. they are small babies normally.
In other news my banty's are dropping like flies i'm down to only one mille Fleur hen, one sebright, one silkie mutt, and some old english game. No one is sick, under fed or to cold and they have water. i think they are just dying from old age, we cant find anything wrong with them at all and non of them were laying. The mille fleur had a laying spurt about 2 months ago but it only lasted 1 week. My porcelain Roo was definately killed by the Large Fowl Barred Buff crosses...dang hybrid vigor. All the young bantams who were hatched last year seem fine and healthy so all that leads me to believe its old age..to bad chickens dont get grey feathers so you can tell their old. I know they are all over 2-4yrs old except the ones hatched last year. Good thing i got some more but its still sad, i love my banty's so much.
