D'uccle Thread

I have the Mille Fleur D'Uccles, at the beginning of last summer I had 6, by the end I had 27..they lay and lay and lay and then the hens will go broody all the time. I actually had 2 hens go broody 2 times each and hatch out several each time...I also ended up giving lots of the birds away because I fell in love with an incubator and kept making sure it worked...every month from May to August.... lol

I hear you! I already have one broody Mille. I let her have 6 eggs to satisfy her broodiness. She was such a good mom last time, and I'm just letting her do what the incubator is doing. At least I won't have to worry about her power going out or her temp/humidity being off.

Good for you giving away d'uccles! It's all part of my master plan for taking over the broody bantam pet hen market. Watch out silkies and Cochins, the d'uccles are going to be on your tails soon!

D'uccle domination is yet to come!

the idea. They are all turning out nice Cynthia. You did a good job selecting a TRIO from the get go. It's interesting how they have progressively feather/color 'ed in. Sweet babies.

Hi,
I have two Mille Fleur D'Uccle chicks ... I think

It is really odd because they are 5 weeks old now and one has barely grown at all. We are calling her Bessie after our 2.8 pound chihuahua. She eats, poops, drinks, runs around, eats weeds, and is pretty assertive considering she is still so tiny. She is still smaller than my standard hens were at 2 weeks old - by far. Is this normal? Abnormal? I have a picture of her next to a chick we got the same day, both were almost exactly the same size when we got them. Is she just a runt? Or is the other one a boy? The other one, Penelope, just started getting a little pink in the comb area, but no definition to the comb on either chick yet.
Thanks!!!
Michele
