D'uccle Thread

My Roo boy has stayed in the house a few times and he really doesn't mind it. He prefers the company of people as most of the girls don't care for him. My Silkie roo is bigger than him, they don't fight, but Gamma is mos def boss. Roo runs to us whenever we come outside and he loves talking! Since the hens don't listen to him when he finds food or anything, I have to pick whatever it is he found up and tell him he's a good boy for him to stop freaking out about the half dead earwig in the yard. >_<
He does his little "Spanish dance" for me all the time...I always tell him we are close, but not that close. xD Poor guy.
Yeah, I thought it was very strange that nails started to grow from where his toes fell off. Not every toe is getting a nail, just a few.
I feel bad that he lost them....but he's been doing much better since they finally fell off. I tried everything when I first noticed his feet looking odd and there was nothing I could do that I was aware of to save them. While he still had them attached but dead, he was having a hard time walking around, I'm sure it felt strange. So he didn't do much, now that they've fallen off he's back to his crazy self. My boyfriend got him used to sleeping in a nesting box that the hens have never used, so now he sleeps there as it's difficult for him to perch all night without his toes.

Your birds are cute! I agree with the light colored birds always being a mess. Some of them seem to outgrow it...others are just always a mess. >_<

This is Ebony, she's still little and not a standard colour. Can't wait to see what she ends up looking like though

Interesting color. What color were her parents?

I am wondering if she will get more red/brown on her or just develop bigger chest pattern, like some of my black sex links do.

Here's one of my Porcelain pullets - from a hatchery order - 3 months old now

She's out in the grass for the first time. Good thing she's wearing "snowshoes"!!

I'm not sure, her breeder has black mottled and mille fluer's and breeds them for showing. She said that this was just a random colour that has popped up. Maybe the mille fluers and black mottled got together behind her back

Just cos the other black mottled look like her only with a white patch (smaller than ebony's).

Hey, guys. I got my babies last Friday and their wing tips are just feathering out leaving me one very confused mama. I ordered porcelains and one of them certainly could be but the other two are getting black lacing on the wing tips! What's up with that?

OH, the boy in the bottom picture at the top next to the perch has the nicest beard and comb! I'm having trouble picking between my boys right now and am picking for personality and fluffy beard/muffs and toes this year. So far there are 3 boys I know for sure that I'm NOT keeping. Next year I'm actually going to try doing some selective breeding after I pick my 3 best hens and put them with each of my older roosters and see who puts out the better chicks. Up till now, I've just been trying to get my volume up so I can have something to pick from. Now I feel like I have enough of a hen population to be more selective with which hens I hatch chicks from. Of my roosters, One is putting out better beards & muffs, the other better color. Sugardaddy's porcelain babies tend to have more lavender on their head and neck which I'm not so sure is standard, and have the better fluffy toes and cheeks. I'm still waiting for Bo Diddly's babies to grow older to assess them. They are being raised by a broody, but I think she's going to go back to the coop soon. She's actually my nicest looking hen for color, muffs, and shape, but her foot feathers are all ragged. All my babies have nice fluffy toes as teenagers, but once they start scratching on that hard Missouri Clay, their toe fluff is over!
