Trust me, this discussion gets old when you've been with the birds for a while, say it any way that you want, just please don't invent a letter that isn't in there............like N.

At Crossroads I spoke to a lot of people that had bed breeding them for a long time. I heard 'DEE ookles' most often, with some saying 'Dee oosles' instead. This was in casual conversation. If specifically asked, some admittted to hearing them called 'dew CLAYS' or 'duh OOklahs'.

But the most common pronunciation was also the one Ronnie Tallent told me to use, which is 'DEE ookles'. So even though I think 'dew CLAYS' sounds prettier, I will always call them 'DEE ookles' and think of Ronnie. I was sad that his wife and son weren't at Crossroads.

In the short time that I have been researching this breed and talking with others in the poultry world I have discovered that pronunciation of the name has shown me just how much they know about this breed.
When I ask about "dew-clay" and they don't know what I am saying then I have found out they also know nothing about the standard or what is correct for the breed. Those that seem to have odd ways of pronouncing it with the "N" or other off the wall letters thrown in are usually ones I have learned to stay clear of when wanting to sell me any of theirs. It has been a great year of learning for me.

As ones from Belgian have told us, it is pronounced "dew-clay".

However, as it has been stated, say it however you want.
