Duck attacked by Raccoon (Still alive is there hope?)

Today I gave her a shower and she seemed to like it. She's drinking clear water and some water with Layena chicken food dissolved in it. The bottom beak is not as bad as I thought. The top beak is bad with bits sticking out. She does not get up or even try though. Is that normal?

I'm sure she is in pain looking at her bill. Great she is drinking. You never said if she has other wounds? how are her legs and feet any swelling? I don't think your going to see a fast recovery here this will take time so be patient. Eating and drinking are great signs that she has the will to live. I think I'd get an antibiotic from the feed store though and start adding some to her water just as a precaution. Not sure which would be best though lets see if we can get @casportpony to weigh in on that.

When I was a kid something similar happened to one of our geese. The vet recommended eating the goose. I had hysterics (it was my favorite goose and still is) so my mom applied neosporin three times a day. The goose lived and spent his life following me around . . and attacking my mother on sight.

Great times, loved watching my mom run and scream.

Good luck with your duck. I hope she improves.

I bet that was funny to watch. Glad your goose lived. I was concerned at having to rub anything on her bill it looks so fragile right now that is why I recommended Veterycin.

It doesn't look as bad as I imagined, so I think as long as you keep it from letting infected you'll be fine. Do as Miss Lydia suggested and check every square inch for other wounds.

Do you think they should do a round of antibiotics at this point or just keep an eye on it? And if antibiotics should be given which one? Thanks.

I'm a little hesitant to suggest antibiotics based on what's been posted so far. I'm hoping that @rivtwins will read the link in my last post and do some of the things listed there (thorough exam, warm room, baseline weight and wound cleaning).

I have a antibiotic LA-200 but I think you have to administer it by shot. We used it for my daughter's 4H goats and lambs. But I can check to see if I can find some at the feed or pet store to put in the water. Thank you so much for all your advice.

Before you buy antibiotic reread what @casportpony just posted
