Besides, their male duck equipment falls off after every breeding season. That's enough to take any male down a notch.

Well the weather was mild enough here for the pools the past couple days....
And I am happy to confirm my drake still has his penis. Just as long and curly as ever....still thinking myth on the drake penis.
Poor Hemmie is the lone recipient of Downey's attention. Luckily, she bears it gracefully and is a feisty little duckie. She can dissuade him when she wants. LolLeonard still has his and uses it multiple times a day. Thank goodness he has 7 girls to choose from!
It's a lot better. I've just been watching his body language and avoiding the scenarios that made him snippy. He seemed to get the most annoyed when I was reaching into their cage, either to add food or put in clean water. I started giving them a treat to distract them both when I need to get in the cage, or making a loud noise (the human mom noise, lol, the same one you hear in the store when a toddler reaches for something) if I see him start to posture. That works really well, honestly. Preventing the situation has been working really well, and the noise makes him know he's in trouble. The one time I wasn't able to prevent it and he did get a tiny little nip in, I loudly told him no and held him down with my hand for a second (gently but firmly). In the beginning, I would lightly bop his beak with my finger, but that just started a pecking match. I just try to watch his body language and make sure they stay used to lots of friendly petting and cuddles, and so far, so good! He's still my snuggly little boy lol.So did the biting ever resolve itself? My (completely ignorant) take would be to prevent bites (by controlling the neck/head) and then pinching back to establish myself as the dominant drake.
