Duck Bumblefoot - how long?

She is getting wise to the laced peas.... Tested an olive...which would have been PERFECT once you pop the core out to fill with meds...but they don't like olives. Spit them out right away. A really small grape would be way better - I could do it in one maybe two...but it takes about 10 peas to fill each one with a bit of meds and pop them in her pea hole.

Do you not feel comfortable just giving it straight? Did we give you the link on how to administer oral meds?

Yes, you did...and we have done it. However, it has been tricky. I've had to do it solo due to other schedules around the house and I've struggled even with help. I think we are both paranoid of pumping it down the wind tube. And, we have spilled it more than we got in her. I may not be forceful enough to pry the bill open either. In any event - the peas have been working amazing. It takes less time and way less stress (no stress) to do it this way.

I take 10-12 or so and use a nail. I poke the nail in a thawed pea and squeeze the juice out - then put the tip of the syringe (no needle) to the hole and pump some in - I get them all ready...pick her up on my lap and pop them in until it is all done - I slip in some non-spiked ones in between because I know these have a bitter taste (don't ask me how I know that).

But, if I had a better veggie/fruit that would hold more meds I could do it faster...with the best part of her never knowing she just got medicated. :)

What about chopped tomatoes? I was thinking she wasn’t taking the peas any more.

She's taking them...but not enthusiastically. If this trend continues I suspect it won't work at all by tomorrow - so I'm planning ahead.

Tomato may work. That's a good idea.

She didn't go for any of the other fruit/veggies. Back to the peas. I've added a drill bit. I poke the thawed pea with a nail, then put the bit in and hand twist it to pull more pea pulp out. I can then stuff the syringe against it and give it a pump or so and it will bloat up - then I pop it in her pea hole. Takes an average of 10 peas to pull that off - 12 when I do the anti-inflammatory med that is thicker and is easy to manage. See the attached pic - the one smaller bumble foot spot has swollen back up. She is not showing any signs of pain or difficulty walking - but I'm concerned this isn't healing. It is soft and squishy to the touch. She has about 7 days of the antibiotic left. He doesn't come back in the office till mid week, so we'll see how it goes and I'll follow up with the doc on Thursday if no progress.

The middle toe Is looking a lot better! So if it is squishy have you still been opening it us and looking for a kernel or just if it is hard? I am just starting this process with two of my drakes and I have to open up one tonight. The little one does look like its swelling more.

Good question...we don't know if we should or not. The Vet didn't mention us trying any more surgery on her. He also didn't condemn us...or praise us for the two surgeries we already did.

I'm going to examine again here in a few hours and make a call. I might at least wrap it again with a liberal dose of ointment over night.
