There's a whole section here for chickens coops, but I was wondering what everyone's duck coops look like, why they chose the construction they did, and how many ducks they house. 🦆

Would be really cool to just add onto the thread to show off our hard work! (Also really nice getting some inspiration for a future build lol)

Here's mine!
It's nothing much, but it does its job.
I made it entirely from free materials like shipping pallets and wood/roof iron which was being thrown away. The floor is raised and has netting on top of spaced apart planks for additional drainage. 🥰💕

Here is mine. It is pine 2x4s with cedar fence boards for siding. It currently houses five ducks from dusk to dawn (they free-range in the fenced garden during the day). It took me many months to build but I am happy how it turned out. I especially enjoy having storage for hay, shavings, and food, above the sleeping quarters. The mesh is currently covered in plastic sheeting for the winter.

This is our coop/pen setup now housing 17 runners. Not as pretty as others, but it's versatile. The ducks can be kept in separate quarters or together. There is a greenhouse that is dedicated to duck use in winter and where I grow peppers in summer. They have multiple places to get out of the weather, though they mostly prefer being in the sheltered outside area, in the straw. There are lots of private places to lay eggs. There's a large area outside the pen where the pools are kept that is covered with netting and can be easily fenced to create a yard for the ducks if we have another eagle fest this spring. Otherwise they have about an acre in the back yard to free range.

Well, I can show you my duck coop but I will also show the addition. I currently have 4 ducks. 2 drakes and 2 hens. I had more from my original flock but they were all killed before they could enjoy this coop. So it was made for a bigger flock but allows us to expand our flock. We are adding the addition because after this silly winter blast and it warmed up into the 50s/60s they got confused and thought mating season. So the 2 boys started fighting and I have had to separate them. I knew I was going to but I was hoping I had more time. So the addition will be separated by the existing fence but we are cutting a hole out of it to make a door. During mating season it will separate them but then one side will hold the mommas and babies while the other boys. Then when they can all get along, they will be able to wonder both sides.

The first 2 pictures are the addition. We picked a pallet fence for both because it makes a windbreaker. And we have consistently at least 20mph winds. Some days are calmer than others though but with flat land all around us it is just easier to expect a breeze at least every day. The house will be raised like the original coop. Both are made with pallet floors and plywood. We are still working on the addition though.

The last ones are of the original coop. We built their “pond” and this coop sets higher than the new one will. Which will be why this will be for the drakes. So the little ones can get into the coop easier. The tin roof is off of a barn we torn down that had it on it.
