@casportpony any ideas what maybe going on?
I have no idea because there are 6 girls all in the same pen and I never get 6 eggs at once. Tonight I'm going to food color her vent so I should know something tomorrow. When did she last lay an egg?
Today she is standing upright as she should.Runners stand upright to begin with, but her stance makes me think of reproductive issues. If she lays a normal egg, that would rule out a lot of potential issues.![]()
Today she is standing upright as she should. Not at all like yesterday. I've been reading about the reproductive issues and I sure hope it's not the case. If I understand right there is a condition that the eggs get laid inside the body instead of outside. I can't remember the name I've been reading so much. Anyway, I don't think it's that because she is so soft and supple. on her abdomen and if there were eggs floating around in there surely I'd be able to feel them!
Also, she doesn't mind me poking around her belly either so it must not hurt her.
Yes, please send me the link to that. I will save it in my bookmarks. I think it took me about 10 minutes to even find the vent yesterday and I can't imagine sticking my finger in there but I've got KY and I've had my hands in way worst places than that!To feel for an egg in an eggbound hen you really need to do an internal exam by inserting a finger in the vent. I can send you a link with directions if you feel you need to go this route. Sometimes they just have an egg that is difficult to lay and can pass it on their own and return to normal. Hopefully this is the case with your girl as it sounds like she is doing better now!
But an egg that needs to be laid is not in that part of the belly, it's up high in the pelvic girdle. To feel for an egg in an eggbound hen you really need to do an internal exam by inserting a finger in the vent.
