Duck hatch-a-long october/november!!!!!! come join!

My son (she likes him best) asked her to stand up so that he could peak......

She stood up for a few seconds, not long enough for him to actually look closely at the eggs, but it was clear that none had hatched yet. It is true that she wasn't sitting very tightly for the first two days......does that mean I should count her due date as tomorrow???

I can't wait for the babies!! We have the most beautiful colors of Muscovies! So, the babies should be a rainbow of colors!

And, it is SO COLD today, brrrrrrrrrrr. I am sure th babies will be OK though, I put a baby feeder and waterer in the insulated coop where the duck is brooding, so I don't think she would be so silly as to take the babies outside.....I guess we will have to just watch and see.

Hiya.....

I was hoping to find an active thread...where some one could hold my hand.

My duck eggs are supposed to hatch...YESTERDAY....

But, they are under my broody Muscovy, so I can't check them, so I am so dieing from suspense!

Earlier in the incubation, when she left to eat we were able to sneak in and candle the eggs.

She is on 14 (i think) and they all looked great.
Are the eggs from the Muscovy, because they do take longer to hatch than regular duck eggs.

yep, Muscovy......I looked it up (this is my first time hatching Muscovy eggs) and it said 4 weeks.

From when she first started sitting to 4 weeks was yesterday. But she didn't sit tight the first two days, so maybe that makes the due date tomorrow?

I dunno. She is MOST CERTAINLY sitting tighter since maybe Monday. She had been getting up for maybe 30 minutes every day in the later afternoon. But since Monday, maybe even Sunday, we haven't caught her off the nest. That means, we haven't been able to candle the eggs!

Late afternoon on Monday my son put the baby feeder and waterer in the coop, and she got off the nest while he watched, ran over and ate and drank, then zoomed right back to the nest. So, he wasn't able to check any eggs. I was surprised that she was able to eat out of the baby feeders, but that is good, since that means she will teach the babies to eat and drink there, and hopefully not take them outside.

LoveToFarm, bummer about the eggs. I really hope you get some to hatch.

I just looked it up. It is five weeks for muscovy eggs.....but that is what I calculated for.

I figured you probably knew that but you never know. I bet since she wasn't on the nest full time the first few days it probably delay them a little. I hope you see little ducklings today!
