Hi, I am getting ready to build a new duck house and pen. what do y'all think of a cement floor? what have you use? and what do y'all use for roofing? shingles? sheet metal? wood? what do people use for walls? I need to build before winter and it needs to last a while. any ideas? thank you
Hi, I have built some A-frame houses that are on wheels, they are 12‘x 6’ and 1/3 is an enclosed house and the other 2/3 is a run. It’s not a huge house, but my usage is only for at nighttime, since my birds free range in the daytime. I will show some pics of my goose house. This one I am showing was my first and the materials were all salvaged parts. I have built more with new material and parts. :D

I would recommend either buying or finding some duck coop or shed plans online and going from there. You could use the strongest materials available, but if things aren't level, supported correctly and straight....well the big bad wolf is going to blow it down aka. the elements. Our old coop was composed of plywood, 4x4's, 2x4's, hardware cloth,.sheet metal and polycarbonate panels. I actually really loved that coop and it withstood hurricanes without moving an inch. My current "coop" is now a metal pole barn with cement floors. Using horse stall mats on the concrete and then a nice 6" layer of bedding on top. There isn't much ventilation (pre-existing barn and last minute move) so I'm taking the top 1' right under the roof, cutting the metal out and replacing it with hardware cloth. I'm also installing some windows, mechanical fans and replacing the one lean-to that's being turned into a covered runs "walls" with polycarbonate panels and hardware cloth. That way there's more natural light and it can be covered with the panels in the winter. In the summer we will take the panels down and the hardware cloth walls will be there.

Edit: top foot under the roof not inch
