Duck missing chunk of feathers on back please help!

When my female duck was swimming i noticed i can see some of her skin. i freaked out and grabbed her out of the pool to check it out. right in between her wings a little lower down her back she has a chunk of feathers missing and you can see her white skin?

what could this be from?? i have another duck he’s a male, i don’t see any feathers in their pen or house so i don’t know when she could’ve done this? i’m with them most of the day..

could it be from my males hard nails when standing on top of her to mate? or maybe her preening? i’m worried.

Most likely the drake They hold on with their feet and mouth when mating. Doesn't look irritated from what I can see.

Thank you! Should I stop my male when he goes to mate with her until they grow back? Im worried that he'll puncture her where the feathers are missing..

No, just let them breed. What your seeing is nothing to worry about..

If her skin become raw and irritated you might have to give her a break from him. But this is normal duck mating. Unfortunately.
