I tried pea pebbles on the ground of the ducks' pen. It just sinks in the mud. I tried bigger rocks, but the ducks cannot walk on them nice. What else can I put on the bottom of the enclosure for it not to be muddy or gross?

Pea gravel only works well with at least 3" depth....what depth are you trying? My pen is pea gravel and the only muddy areas are where the gravel is sparse...like 1". I also recently added chef grade rubber mats over the gravel and it's even easier to keep clean and mud free now as when I spray off the mats the gravel doesn't shift much.

I couldn't decide between pea gravel or mats... went with mats and so happy I did!!! So easy and after a quick spray down it looks like a brand new pen! No flies no smell ;)

I am in the process of moving my pen and this time I have added pea gravel and some square pavers and I love it so far. I put hardware cloth under it tho to keep the ducks safe from predators that did.
