This morning we noticed that Angus' penis appeared to be prolapsed--at least partially. Pictures will follow in the thread, but am I correct that we should be taking him to the vet rather than waiting and observing? He did not appear particularly unlike himself this morning (he was swimming, eating, preening, etc., but no mating).

Angus is an almost two-year old silver appleyard living with five females.

It looks very pink, like too pink. I don know if that's because it's cold or if it's getting infected. It's also cold where you are, so I would worry about frostbite.

I just noticed that the white duck has what looks like a dirty vent. You might want to clean that up and keep an eye on it.

It's above freezing for the first time in a while right now, but the temps are supposed to plummet today and remain cold tomorrow and tomorrow night. Yes, it looks a very different color than usual.

Tell me more about that. I didn't know "dirty vent" was a thing. I just assumed it was because she is white. I'd like to get all this done soon before we hit singled digit temps later today.

It could be a sign of an infection or parasites. If she were mine I would clean the poop off and inspect her vent, then inspect her next few poops. Do you have a vet you can take the drake too?

Thanks again. We do have a vet to which we can take him. Are you thinking that is our best bet as a first move, or should we try the following recommendations in the link you sent first?

I think a vet is always best. I say this because they might want to start him on antibiotics. Email the pictures to the vet and see what they say.
